Homemade Footswitch for Live Frees up your Hands for $10

We’ve seen some interesting footswitches for Live, but this one is probably the cheapest and most effective. For under $10, Ableton Forum member AlexMC made a footswitch out of some hardwood and the following materials:
- sheet of 6mm MDF
- 15mm square-section stripwood
- momentary switches (I used 21, but you could make a very functional device with 8-12)
- fine gauge wire (solid core is easier to work with)
- old USB keyboard
- salvaged ribbon cable (I used an old PC IDE cable)
- terminal block
- LED mount grommit
- glue, screws and nails/tacks
- 12mm washers
He used the old USB keyboard for its controller and USB interface. We’d like some more interesting DIY gear for Live, like an APC 40 clone…

Welcome To The AbletonTweets Site!
Hey there! Welcome to the newly launched AbletonTweets site! Here, you will be able to find updates for (and articles about) Ableton Live and its components. We will be starting out with several writers and their info can be found to the left.
Each of these writers have experience with Ableton Live in one way or another. Some have written for major blogs, and some (like myself) are indie artists who use live on a daily basis either for performance or for production.
AbletonTweets was started on Twitter in early January by DJ Eberry (Steven Eckelberry) and has been a hit ever since. Over the past 2.5 months we have received 1,600 followers and have sent out many updates.
This site is an extension of the Twitter account, in that we will use it to post longer tutorials, guides, and videos about Live and its components: things that don’t fit in 140 characters.
You can continue to follow AbletonTweets on Twitter, and you will still get all of the updates that were posted on this site. Alternatively, there is an RSS link at the top of the page for you to subscribe in your favorite feed reader.
I look forward to reading comments by the vibrant Ableton Live community.
Steven Eckelberry
